Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Veterans Exams Nurse Practitioner to join our team in providing comprehensive health assessments for military veterans. In this vital role, you will conduct detailed physical examinations, review medical histories, and coordinate necessary diagnostic evaluations to support veterans' benefits claims. Your expertise will ensure accurate, thorough evaluations that uphold the highest standards of patient care and documentation. Duties Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments tailored to veterans' unique health needs, including vital signs, musculoskeletal, neurological, and functional evaluations. Review and interpret medical histories, previous records, and diagnostic results such as laboratory tests and imaging studies. Conduct specialized procedures including suturing, IV infusion, venipuncture, catheter care, and sterile processing as needed during evaluations. Document findings accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or eClinicalWorks, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and case managers to coordinate diagnostic testing such as sonography or spinal taps when necessary. Provide patient education on health management strategies, medication administration, and post-evaluation care plans. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-10 coding standards, and Workers' Compensation law to ensure proper documentation for benefits processing. Skills Proven experience working with veterans or in a clinical setting that involves complex assessments and documentation. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for accurate medical documentation. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques relevant to primary care and specialty assessments. Skilled in performing procedures including suturing, phlebotomy, IV insertion, catheterization, and sterile processing techniques. Familiarity with telehealth platforms for remote assessments and follow-up care delivery. Experience with acute pain management, behavioral health screening, geriatrics, memory care or dementia care is highly desirable. Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments such as hospital medicine units or outpatient clinics while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration; compassionate approach tailored to diverse veteran populations including those with disabilities or developmental disabilities.
