Job Description
Position Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the department's management and RN, the PCT II assists the nurse in providing quality patient care to patients.Responsibilities:
Collects initial and on-going data as delegated in regards to the health status of the patient based on chart documentation, including height/weight and vital signs. Follows an individualized plan of care that promotes positive immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team. Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes as delegated. Accurately documents patient response to interventional therapy based upon expected outcomes. Carries out delegated patient care activities and communicates with other members of the healthcare team as evidenced by positive patient outcomes. Collects blood and various non-blood specimens such as urine, sputum and throat or nasal swabs for laboratory testing with a turnaround time of 30 minutes for stats and two hours for routines while maintaining specimen integrity. Initials, dates, and times all collections. Identifies, labels, handles and transports specimens to the lab for testing. Coordinates the collection of therapeutic drug-monitoring assays with nursing personnel to ensure the proper drug dose to collection time. Utilizes bar code scanning and verbal communication for patient identifiers.Qualifications:
Required:
Successful completion of a nurse assistant training program, and knowledge of general nursing assistant functions. Current nursing assistant certification in the State of Kansas. BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment. Additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.Preferred:
Courses in medical terminology 6 months medical center experience Non-violent Crisis intervention (CPI) classInfection Control:
Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.Patient Interaction:
