Non-Exempt Positions Summary:
The certified nursing assistant provides basic resident care under the supervision of a licensed nurse and assists in the maintenance of the unit environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Receives reports regarding the status of assigned residents at the beginning of the shift. Gives reports to supervising nurse at the end of the shift. Performs direct and indirect resident care activities as ordered and consistent with the facility's policies and procedures. a. Bathing residents (bedbath, tub, shower) b. Feeding residents c. Toileting residents (bedpan, urinal, bedside, commode, bathroom) d. Performing perineal care e. Assisting residents in grooming (hair care, nail care, foot care) f. Shampooing residents' hair g. Providing oral hygiene and denture care h. Measuring intake and output i. Giving enemas j. Collecting urine and stool specimens k. Transferring residents for bed, chair, wheelchair l. Assisting residents with use of walkers, wheelchairs, canes, braces m. Positioning residents in chairs, beds, wheelchairs, gerichairs n. Turning and changing positions of residents o. Lifting residents (manually and with mechanical lifts) p. Performing range of motion exercises (active and passive) q. Assisting with ambulation r. Making occupied an unoccupied bed s. Weighing residents t. Taking vital signs u. Providing post-mortem care v. Practicing universal precautions and special isolation techniques w. Monitoring and releasing restraints Practices effective communication techniques with residents, visitors, and coworkers. Protects residents from complications and injuries. Respects residents' rights. Protects residents from abuse and neglect. Adheres to infection prevention and control procedures. Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges of residents. Prepares rooms for new admissions. Marks residents' personal possessions; makes inventory of personal possessions. Transports and escorts residents. Documents care as necessary. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of residents' care plans. Keeps equipment, supplies, and resident furniture clean. Keeps environment clean. Reports to unit nursing manager/charge nurse: Changes in residents' status Residents' responses to care Equipment and supply needs Repair and maintenance needs Safety hazards Unusual occurrences of observations Problems with completion of assignment Directs resident and visitor complaints to unit nurse manager/head nurse or charge nurse. Assists physicians and nurses with treatments and procedures. Attends staff development activities to improve knowledge and skills and to maintain competency and certification. Follows the Compliance of Medicare/Medicaid Fraud and Abuse policy.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School graduation or equivalent. Speak and understand English. Licenses and/or
Certification:
Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of employment.
