Job Description

Under nurse supervision, assist patients perform daily tasks. Keeps the nurse up to date on patients' vital information. Assists with maintenance as needed. MISSION, VALUES and

Activity of Daily Living:
Provides safe patient environment. Attends to hygiene and grooming needs of patients. Assures that patients receive correct diet and assists with feeding as needed. Provides patient activity and positioning. Provides safe transport and transfer of patients. Documents any patient care performed.
Clinical Care:
Accurately measures and documents intake and output in a timely manner. Takes vital signs, documents, and reports abnormal in a timely manner. Obtains and documents heights and weights. Picks up and delivers blood products per policy. Appropriately collects and delivers specimens. Obtains needed patient care items. Obtains and documents blood sugar readings.
Communication:
Gives accurate shift report. Reports patient changes and needs to appropriate staff member. Responds promptly to patient, family and staff needs. Responds in emergency situations and assists as directed. Clear, effective, compassionate communication. Understands scope of practice when communicating with others.
Unit Maintenance:
Assist with supply inventory maintenance as needed. Performs unit cleaning activities as directed. Keeps patient rooms neat and free of clutter. Maintains a safe working environment. Performs QA checks as directed. Restocks supplies. Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department: Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements: Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. Complies with established organization and department policies. Education and Experience The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must be a minimum of 17 years of age. Previous patient care experience preferred. A Nurse Assistant certification is preferred. Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR) within 3 months of hire and maintain certification. Knowledge & Skills Familiarity with basic hospital equipment and policies and procedures. Able to perform blood pressure and other vital signs correctly. Knowledge of and correct utilization of good body mechanics. Working Conditions Moderate stress involved when census and/or acuity is high, or staff is low. Potential hazards due to possible direct exposure to residents with infectious diseases, exposure to sometimes hostile and combative residents. Physical Demands Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, walking or standing. Work may require an awkward position to be assumed for short periods of time in lifting or handling heavy patients.
