Job Description
Position Purpose The primary purpose of this position is to perform and oversee resident personal care or to assist residents in performing personal care, including dining services, in accordance with Facility policies and procedures. This position is PRN, or as needed with more hours available during the summer months. Position Duties Resident Care Accurately and safely perform resident care, in accordance with residents' service plan, resident Assignment Sheets and worksheets, and nurses' instructions. Follow resident Service Plans and give input for changes in writing. Administer PRN medications, per procedure. Answer residents' pendant alarms and emergency call buttons in a timely manner, then follow the incident reporting procedure. Check residents' medications drawer and initial on the Medication Sheet when they have taken their medicines; remind residents to take medications and/or give assistance when needed. Straighten and maintain Assisted Living area and equipment storage areas in neat and orderly condition. Assist residents to and from meals, meetings, and activities, as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Documentation and Communication Give incoming staff a report at the end of assigned shift. Accurately record resident care on Resident Assignment Sheet. File documentation in resident charts as needed. Inform nurses, in writing, of improvement or decline in resident condition on a timely basis. Charge out billable supplies. Answer Assisted Living telephone when nurse is unavailable Communicate with supervisor and participate in training and/or meetings that help facilitate departmental communication process. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or required. Attend staff and departmental meetings, as directed. Essential Physical, mental, and Emotional Requirements Employee must be at least 18 years of age, as position operates potentially hazardous equipment. The employee must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work under time and/or deadline pressures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift up to 10 pounds, but rarely lift up to 20 pounds, and rarely lift up to 40 pounds. The employee must occasionally reach above shoulder height, frequently reach from chest to shoulder, and frequently reach below waist level. The employee must occasionally carry up to 12 pounds but rarely carry up to 25 pounds. The employee must frequently push / pull up to 20 pounds, but rarely push up to 40 pounds and rarely push / pull up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
