Under licensed Anesthesia providers, the Anesthesia Technician Assistant assists in the physiological monitoring of patients and the preparation of drugs, fluids, anesthesia and equipment ancillary to operative intervention or other procedures requiring anesthesia set up. Also operate and maintain patient care monitors and anesthesia equipment. Responsibilities
PATIENT POPULATION
- (CLINICAL ONLY) Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. Assists the licensed anesthesia providers in clinical settings such as; the Operating Room (OR), obstetrics suite (OB), Interventional and/or Diagnostic Radiology, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cath Lab, Emergency Room (ER), Endoscopy, Dental suites, Ambulatory Surgery suites, animal and research laboratories, in-house Rapid Response and code situations. Will perform the set-ups, operation and troubleshooting of anesthesia delivery systems, monitors, and ancillary devices. The anesthesia technicians will maintain a sufficient inventory of all equipment and supplies in carts and workroom. Will perform duties under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesia provider and/or CRNA. Will provide support for route surgical cases by preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. Cleans, sterilizes, disinfects, stocks, orders and maintains the routine anesthesia equipment and supplies. Will perform speed and timeliness in all duties particularly in preparation for emergencies and traumas. Participates in departmental Quality Improvement and Risk Management activities. Assists anesthesia professional staff as requested. Assists in preparation and draping of patient for invasive monitoring/procedures by licensed anesthesia providers. Assists and anticipates needs of licensed anesthesia providers in invasive monitor insertion and procedures such as pulmonary artery catheter, central venous access, regional anesthesia, fiberoptic intubation and is familiar with the ASA Difficult Airway Algorithm. Aids in preparation of patients for major invasive monitoring and/or complex cases including but not limited to placement of BP cuff, ECG leads and pulse oximeter. Sets up OR for cases which may include the following preparation of laryngoscope and intubation equipment, IV solution and tubing set-up of IV warming devices. Will assist licensed anesthesia providers with volume infusions as directed during intraoperative volume resuscitation. Will prepare and assemble transducer lines and equipment necessary for invasive pressure monitoring as necessary of requested. Assembles and assists with operation of specialized equipment such as humidification units; fiberoptic endoscopic equipment, rapid infusion devices/blood warmers, patient warming devices, neuromuscular devices, infusion pumps and syringes. Will perform detailed technical knowledge and troubleshooting ability for anesthesia delivery system, scavenger system, gas analyzer, EKG, pulse oximeter and rapid infusion devices.
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
6 months of health care experience required. Basic knowledge of anesthesia gas machine.
