Job Description

THE POSITION

The Nurse Aide position with the Department of Corrections offers a meaningful way to support inmate health and daily care needs at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy. This role allows you to make a positive impact by helping licensed staff provide safe and consistent care. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports licensed healthcare staff by providing daily care and assistance to inmates at SCI Mahanoy. It requires attention to detail, steady communication, and a strong commitment to safety and proper procedures. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:
Vital Monitoring:
Check and record vital signs, document habits, and report changes to licensed professionals
Personal Care:
Assist with hygiene needs, provide bed care, support mobility, and help with meals and fluid intake
Safety Support:
Observe behaviors, assist with escorts, follow infection control procedures, and maintain a clean environment
Record Management:
Enter information in the electronic health record and complete required reports and documentation
Supply Handling:
Sterilize equipment, track inventory, and maintain necessary stock levels
Training Participation:
Attend required training sessions, join team meetings, and maintain necessary job certifications
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week The Department of Corrections is staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 8-hour shifts include 1st shift (6:00 AM to 2:30 PM), 2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:30 PM), and 3rd shift (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM), with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedules are to be determined at the time of hire.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
Special Requirement:
This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
