WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Certified Nursing Assistant provides care and services to residents under the supervision of a nurse.
Responsibilities:
Assists the resident with activities of daily living Bathes or assists resident to bathe, provides evening care and incontinent care. Grooming, care of hair and fingernails. Dressing and undressing. Assists resident with meal tray, assists with or feeds resident as needed, provides between meal nourishment and fluids as assigned. Toilets resident. Positions resident for comfort, using principles of body mechanics and repositions when necessary. Provides or assists with oral hygiene. Answers call bell lights promptly. Recognizes residents strengths and uses rehabilitative nursing techniques to restore or maintain independence. Range of motion exercises. Supervise/assists with/teach ambulation, transfer, etc. Assists with bowel and bladder training. Assist in meeting the resident's emotional needs. Explains procedures and talks with resident. Shows support through listening. Encourages social and/or therapeutic activities. Supports the dying resident. Provides for residents' privacy when appropriate. Provides for Resident Rights. Monitors and assists residents who smoke (currently in assigned building). Assists in provision of a safe and clean environment. Proper use and storage of equipment; i.e., wheelchair, side rails, bath tubs and lifts. Reports faulty equipment and accidents to the Nurse. Dresses resident appropriately for activities, appointments, etc. Make and remake beds as assigned. Cleans beds, bedside units, and hampers and all other areas designated by Nurse. Puts away clean linen and supplies. Assists in preventing the spread of infection. Uses proper handwashing techniques. Uses proper disposition of soiled linen. Cares for residents in isolation. Practices standard precautions. Reports observations to Nurse concerning the residents condition or activities including: Participates as team member in inter disciplinary care conference as requested. Performs postmortem care. Attends staff development programs related to job responsibilities and maintains educational requirements needed for certifications. Transports residents from one nursing unit to another. Performs other duties as assigned and may rotate among various nursing units.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid PA Nurse Aide Registration High school graduate or equivalent required Required to provide proof of completion of an accredited NATCEP Must be able to read, write and follow directions. Must be able to communicate effectively with residents and staff.
EXPERIENCE
Previous healthcare experience preferred but not required.
