Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist professional nursing staff by performing duties in caring for residents at facility; work under supervision of professional nurses; transport, bath, and dress residents; comb hair, clean teeth, and care for nails; provide bedpans and urinals; make beds and feed residents; execute resident assessment and care plans; provide for safety, comfort, and well-being of resident. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
License/Registration:
As required by federal and state law
Continuing Education:
As required by federal and state law including in-service training programs
Education:
Minimum of a high school diploma and completion of the state-approved training programs, including on-the-job training
Experience:
Prefer some previous experience in health-care facilities
Job Knowledge:
Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatments and providing related bedside resident-care service. Understanding of standard techniques used in providing personal services for resident and in caring for equipment and supplies. Good understanding of basis of asepsis and sterile techniques to avoid infection of residents and self or contamination of equipment or supplies. Be aware of the assessment process, and the development and execution of care plans. Have knowledge of infection control and Material Safety Data Sheets.
Standards:
Perform duties in accordance with established methods and techniques and in conformance with recognized standards. Provide maximum resident care services within limits defined by delegated tasks.
Other:
Exhibit genuine interest in residents; patience and tact in dealing with residents, families, and visitors; initiative and judgment in recognizing symptoms indicative of resident's adverse reactions to treatment; willingness to perform a variety of simple repetitive tasks.
Work Area and Environment:
Nursing department, resident rooms, supply room, nursing station, and throughout the facility. Physical activities and requirements (see attached list for more details): CNA must perform all physical tasks required in normal, irregular or emergency operations to keep the facility running efficiently, ensuring at all times that residents receive excellent quality care. The CNA frequently performs physical tasks involving transporting residents by wheelchair, lifting and positioning residents (with assistance), and loading and unloading supplies. The CNA may also be required to perform housekeeping, laundry, dietary, and general maintenance tasks in times of crisis. (Essential tasks may include transporting residents in wheelchairs, positioning residents in chairs or beds, assisting in maintenance, laundry, dietary tasks as needed to ensure the proper operation of the facility in regular, irregular and emergency operations). a.
Stooping:
bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. b.
Kneeling:
Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. c.
Crouching:
Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. d.
Reaching:
Extending hands and arms in any direction e.
Standing:
Remaining upright on the feet for sustained periods of time. f.
Walking:
Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks. g.
Pushing:
Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force. h.
Pulling:
Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. i.
Lifting:
Raising objects form a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. j. Typing on computer keyboard. k.
Grasping:
Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. l.
Talking:
Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. m.
Hearing:
Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information thorough oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound. The CNA is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Working conditions for this position are generally inside, with occasional outside work as needed. Exposure to infectious diseases is possible.
