Job Description
Purpose of Position The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for to providing non- professional nursing care and related services as required to meet the personal and emotional needs and comfort of residents, and to provide assistance with activities of daily living per the individualized plan of care or program plan. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are primarily performed, and which are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned. Performs total cares, assists or supervises resident activities in daily living, including bathing, grooming, dressing and oral hygiene. Follows care plan on master Kardex.
Makes suggestions to Registered Nurse regarding any changes in residentstatus. Assists residents at meal times according to therapeutic dietary programs; serves and removes meal trays; serves between meal snacks; prepares and serves unscheduled nourishments; records fluids and foodintake. Reports and records observations of residents physical, emotional condition with nursing assistant guidelines; charts level of care required by each resident regarding toileting, activities of daily living, feeding, restraints etc; reports faultyequipment. Recognize and report resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriations offunds. Participates in providing rehabilitation nursing care or active treatment as specified by the resident care plan; provides assistance with physical therapy, occupationaltherapy and activitiesprogram. Transport residents using wheelchairs, sit to stand, hoyer lift, and two or threeperson lifts, transfer belts, etc., or provides assistance withambulation. Responds to resident call lights, wander alarms, and motionalarms. Follows universalprecautions. Provides assistance in maintaining a safe, clean and therapeutic environment; distributes and changes linens; disposes of soiled linen properly; keeps utility, linenand soiled linen rooms in order; keeps hallways and rooms free of clutter; performs other cleaning duties as required; disposes of wasteproperly. Document per facilitypolicy. Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, asrequired. Minimum Qualifications Education and/or Experience Requirements Current certification as a certified nursing assistant in the State ofWI. No previous work experiencenecessary. Minimum Reasoning Ability Qualifications In order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following language skills are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess. Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and writteninstructions. Must have ability to work accurately with attention todetail. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records andreports. Licenses, Certifications, and Other RequirementsPrior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. Additionally, all required certifications will be verified through the Wisconsin (WI) Registry prior to hire. Tools, Software, and Technology The Certified Nursing Assistant utilizes a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies to safely and effectively perform essential job functions, including but not limited to: Patient care and daily living aids, such as wheelchairs and walkers to assist with safe patientmobility Transfer and gait belts to support patientstransfers Mechanical patient lifts to safely move or repositionpatients Bed rails and positioning pillows to enhance patient comfort and preventfalls Vital signs and monitoring equipment such as thermometers, blood pressure monitors and cuffs, and pulseoximeters Electronic Medical Record systems for documenting residentrecords Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities To perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess. Knowledge of medicalterminology. Knowledge of proper liftingmechanics. Knowledge of unit recordkeeping and chartingprocedures. Knowledge of restrainingtechniques. Knowledge of unit general policies andprocedures. Skill in providing assistance to residents in basic daily care (bathing, grooming,dressing, oralhygiene). Skill in assisting in and participating in rehabilitation, physical, recreationalor occupational therapyactivities. Skill in recording and documenting in charts resident behaviors, observations,fluid/food intake,etc. Ability to observe and inform nursing personnel of any significant residentstatus changes. Ability to establish rapport withresidents. Ability to follow directions, instructions and perform duties in accordance with resident care plans, nursing instruction and assist residents in accordance with CNAexpectations. Ability to properly lift and use bodymechanics. Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional workingrelationships. Ability to follow Clark County policies andprocedures. Ability to manage time effectively and complete work within establisheddeadlines. Ability to work the allocated hours of theposition. Minimum Language Skills Qualifications To perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following language skills are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and verbal form withstaff, supervisors, and thepublic. English skills (oral and written comprehension) sufficient to effectively interact with internal and externalcustomers. Minimum Reasoning Ability Qualifications To perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following reasoning abilities are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess. Minimum Mathematical Ability Qualifications To perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following mathematical skills are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess. Ability to mathematical computations using whole numbers, fractions anddecimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, andpercentages. In evaluating candidates for this position, Clark County may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Physical effort will typically require infrequent exertion of objects weighing up to 10 pounds and/or prolonged and frequent exertion of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, reaching with hands and arms, speaking and hearing,standing stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and/or climbing. Work has standard visionrequirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means ofthe spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken wordlevels. Duties associated with the job involve some exposure to and end environmental conditions such as strong orders, disease/infections/pathogens, and exposure tobody fluids, blood, bites and scratches fromresidents. Risks and associated hazards can be minimized but not eliminated throughsafety training, procedures, equipment and general risk managementprocedures.
