Job Description

Job Description Summary Under the direction of the primary RN and under the supervision of the charge RN, along with collaborations of interdisciplinary team members, delivers individualized, patient centered care. This care is provided according to the scope of service for PCU and Wyoming State Certified Nursing Assistant license or Wyoming EMS Provider License. Essential Functions 1. Patient Care Activities Assists in admitting patients to PCU by opening the room, initiating vital signs, height and weight and white boards. Provides AM care, evening care and other personal care as needed throughout the shift. Takes vital signs, I&O, and height and weight as directed by RN. Assists with patient mobility, positioning using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment. Assists patient with meals, including ordering room service, assist or feeds patient as needed and picks up food trays. Makes rounds on patients, anticipates needs in a way that decreases patients need to use call lights, but when call lights are used, answers them and pages in a timely manner. Discuss and follows plan of care developed collaboratively with RN. Assists with discharge process as directed by RN. Collects specimens using 2 patient identifiers and appropriately transports to proper areas as directed. Reports any observed changes in patient condition/behavior to the RN or Charge RN in a timely manner. Uses universal precautions on all patients and specific isolation precautions as needed. 2. Environmental Responsibilities Appropriately handles and cares for patient's personal property from admission to discharge. Reports malfunctioning equipment and other problems to management. Cleans equipment between patients as needed and keeps hallways clear. Rounds on empty rooms to ensure "perfect room" readiness. 3. Other Activities Answers phones and call lights at nurses station and relays messages. Relieves secretary for breaks and meals.
Job Requirements Minimum Education Required:
Must have completed an accredited CNA or Emergency Medicine Technician or Paramedic course.
Minimum Work Experience Required:
Effective and professional communication skills. Good customer service skills.
Required Licenses:
Must have a current Wyoming CNA license or WY EMS provider license or WY Paramedic License, current BLS at time of hire, and CPI certification within 6 months of hire.
Functional Demands Working Conditions:
Hospital medical/surgical unit. May float to other clinical units, frequent stressful situations. Must be on-site at the St. John's Health campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Requirements:
75% of the time standing and walking. Irregular hours, meals and breaks. Must possess sight/hearing senses to meet job requirements. Intermittent computer use. Must possess the ability to lift, push, pull and move patients, equipment and supplies. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
