POSITION SUMMARY
The Adjunct RN Clinical Instructor
  • Pediatric Nursing provides clinical supervision and instruction to ADN students in pediatric healthcare settings.
The instructor facilitates the application of nursing theory to practice, ensuring students deliver safe, developmentally appropriate, and family-centered care to infants, children, and adolescents. This role supports student learning while maintaining compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) requirements.
SSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Instruction and Supervision Supervise and instruct students during pediatric clinical rotations in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and community settings. Guide students in providing safe, evidence-based, and developmentally appropriate care to pediatric patients. Facilitate clinical learning in areas including: Pediatric assessment and vital signs Growth and development Medication administration and safety in pediatrics Family-centered care and patient education Common pediatric conditions and treatments Ensure adherence to clinical site policies, infection control standards, and patient safety protocols. Student Evaluation and Feedback Evaluate student clinical performance through direct observation, care plans, skills check-offs, and clinical assignments. Provide immediate, constructive feedback to support skill development and clinical judgment. Complete midterm and final evaluations in accordance with program policies. Maintain accurate records of attendance, competencies, and student progress. Clinical Coordination and Communication Collaborate with clinical site staff to coordinate student assignments and learning opportunities. Communicate clinical objectives, expectations, and daily assignments clearly to students. Serve as a liaison between the nursing program and clinical facility personnel. Ensure clinical experiences align with course objectives and student learning outcomes. Mentorship and Student Support Serve as a professional role model demonstrating compassionate, ethical, and culturally competent care. Support students in developing confidence, accountability, and critical thinking skills. Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive clinical learning environment. Professional Development and Compliance Maintain current clinical competency in pediatric nursing practice. Stay current with evidence-based practice, healthcare regulations, and standards of care. Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required. Ensure compliance with institutional policies and California BRN regulations . E ducation Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) required. Licensure Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in California . Experience Minimum of one (1) year of continuous, full-time or equivalent experience providing direct patient care as an RN in pediatric nursing within the past five (2) years (BRN requirement). Teaching/Precepting Experience Prior clinical teaching, precepting, or mentoring experience preferred, but not required Clinical Competency Demonstrated expertise in: Pediatric nursing care Growth and development across the pediatric lifespan Medication safety and dosage calculations for children Family-centered care Communication and Interpersonal Skills Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Technical Skills Ability to utilize electronic health records (EHR) and learning management systems (LMS).
