A Nursing Instructor or Professor teaches nursing students with a combination of classroom instruction and clinical training. Teaches academic subjects needed as the foundation for nursing, such as anatomy and chemistry, and also job skills required for direct patient care. Teaches at a college or in a hospital or other clinical setting.
Elms College, located in Chicopee, MA, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing. A full-time nursing tenured track faculty member is responsible for implementing the nursing curriculum, program evaluation, and improvement; supports the philosophy of the School of Nursing (SON); and supports the mission of the College. Nursing faculty share in the budget planning activities and assist in determining staffing needs. Specific content needs are requested in geriatrics, assessment, and clinical expertise in medsurg/leadership nursing.
Specific Responsibilities:
Serves as a Geriatrics, assessment, and assorted medical-surgical and leadership clinical content expert. Develops syllabi and teaching strategies for the assigned course(s) in conjunction with the respective Curriculum Committe. Participates in ongoing curricular development, implementation, and evaluation. Participates in developing and implementing a systematic evaluation plan for the BSN nursing education programs. Develops, implements, and evaluates policies consistent with the policies of Elms College. Participates in classroom and clinical teaching and evaluation. Serves as a faculty advisor to assigned nursing students to ensure students meet professional and degree requirements. Participates in activities to promote personal and professional growth, maintaining professional competence through practice, continuing education, and professional activities. Provides a self-evaluation annually per Elms College and SON requirements. Serves as a professional role model for students. Participates in standing and ad hoc committees with the college and the School of Nursing. Attends regularly scheduled SON and Elms College faculty meetings. Participates in pinning and hooding ceremonies, convocations, and commencement exercises. Assumes responsibility for serving as course coordinator as appropriate. Evaluates each course offering according to the SON End of Course Reports criteria and files in the appropriate course book in the School of Nursing.
Faculty Obligations:
Following the College Faculty Handbook, full-time teaching faculty members must have 24 credit hours per academic year or equivalent. Qualifications/Criteria for
Appointment:
Minimum of a master's degree with a major in nursing, a Doctoral degree preferred. Clinical experience in a med-surg/leadership. Knowledge and experience in baccalaureate nursing education.
