Position Title Assistant Professor of Nursing (12 months) (2 positions)
FLSA Exempt
Contract Length 12 months
Class Summary Responsible for providing instruction within the appropriate department/program. Programs include potential assignments in the Associate Degree in Nursing program, Vocational Nursing program, and any additional programs in the COM Nursing Department. Develop and revise curriculum and course work. Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation. Serves on College committees as needed and assigned. Participate in student orientation, instructional, and advisement activities as needed and assigned.

- Comply with COM and Nursing Department Policies and Procedures to ensure a positive learning environment for student instruction and to support the activities of the college and to attend meetings and training as required.
- Prepare teaching / learning activities to promote clinical judgement.
- Develop and revise curriculum and course work.
- Prepare online learning platform for courses
- Meet clinical assignments.
- Prepare clinical schedules and arrangements for assigned agency in a timely manner.
- Supervision of students caring for 1-3 patients.
- Coordinate safe nursing care of patients by student.
- Maintain Texas RN Licensure and credentials.
- Maintain current immunizations and CPR as required by clinical agencies.
- Maintain a minimum of 7.5 scheduled office hours per week to be available for students.
- Participate in committees and meetings and be in attendance 90% of the time.
- Models ethical, compassionate, and culturally competent care

- Serves as a role model and mentor for students and new faculty
- Advocates for student success and academic integrity
- Participates in program improvement and leadership initiatives
- Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing. Licensing/Certification Requirements Unencumbered Registered Nursing license in the state of Texas. Physical Requirements
- May work indoors in classroom, skills lab, and office, travel to clinical assignments. Work with students, staff, and patients during clinical teaching experience. Occasional irregular hours or weekend work.
- Clinical shifts will be for a period of 12 hours.
Physical:
High physical demand. Must be able to stoop, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist in patient care/clinical teaching situations, or demonstrate ability to perform tasks successfully. Possible exposure to communicable diseases through patient care clinical experience. Occasionally assist in two-person lifting of patients. Identifying specific weights lifted in a transfer is difficult because it is dependent upon the amount of assistance the patient is able to offer.
