Job Description

Overview Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, directs, coordinates, and controls the nursing activities of his or her assigned staff. Assists the Supervisor in evaluation of assigned staff and in completion of assigned projects. The Registered Nurse provides care for a group of patients utilizing the Nursing Process. Assignments are performed appropriately to age and developmental level of patients being served. Responsible for maintaining nursing schedules, orientation of new employees. Responsibilities Provides leadership for the nursing team on assigned shift. Collaborates with the Unit's nursing leadership team and other shift Charge Nurses to coordinate patient care and staffing as needed to include assigning lunches and breaks for the staff. Makes patient assignments ensuring effective and appropriate utilization of staff based on patient acuity. Conducts Change of Shift Huddles ensuring bedside change of shift report of assigned staff. Coordinates care in collaboration with members of the patient's treatment team to provide assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation services. Provides direct patient care including administering medications, wound care, injections, intravenous infusions and other treatment interventions while operating standard critical care equipment safely and correctly. Documents patient assessment findings, care rendered, procedures performed, and other various aspects of patient plan of care making periodic updates related to the patient's condition and response to treatment. Monitors supplies/equipment, ordering/repairing as required to ensure the quality of care and operational standard are maintained. Ensures cost effectiveness in the use of supplies and forms. Assists nurse manager in the coaching and evaluation of staff performance. Completes other tasks as assigned for department staff, including payroll and time keeping. Acts as a liaison between physicians and administrators and participates in communicating any protocol changes to staff. Escalates issues involving personnel, medical staff, patients, families and the general public to the appropriate management personnel as indicated. Ensures compliance with all healthcare standards and requirements established by various licensing, regulatory and accreditation bodies. All other duties as assigned by department.
Qualifications Education:
Associates degree in nursing
Required Experience:
1 year of acute care nursing
Preferred Experience:
1 year of progressive leadership management
