Google Chrome, Safari Description Employee works directly with supervisor(s) to accomplish desired results within a clinical area. This individual utilizes independent judgment and problem solving skills to resolve routine operational issues and routinely offer suggestions to improve clinic operations. In addition, the charge nurse will provide direct supervision for other medical team members ( clinic nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, nursing technicians, and nursing assistants), as well as residents and medical students rotating through the resident clinics in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Examples of Duties Support of Clinical Activities 70% A. Interview patient, develop and implement treatment plans, and perform nursing duties required for each patient. B. Assist in all patient calls received daily. Coordinate patient calls and assist in arranging date and time of clinical appointments. C. Assist physician in the performance of gynecologic examinations, Pap smears, endometrial biopsies, and all other OB/Gyn technical procedures. D. Obtain prenatal history and assist physician on all prenatal visits. E. Dispense oral medications, give injections, and draw blood samples in a safe and accurate manner according to physicians and pharmaceutical/laboratory and protocol directives with minimal discomfort to patients. F. Obtain/review laboratory results, charting values in medical record and relaying accurate results to patients and referring physicians when appropriate. G. Send prescriptions to pharmacies per physician directive or department policies, utilizing the electronic health record system. H. Schedule surgeries for providers. I. Address patient concerns that require evaluation and management beyond the medical team members duties J. Adjust the daily clinic staffing needs based on call-ins and provider needs when Nurse Administrator is unavailable. Administration 15% A. Assist the Nurse Administrator in establishing clinical procedures in compliance with SIU School of Medicine and SIU HealthCare's policies. B. Serve as a clinical resource to secretarial and clerical personnel in the performance of their respective duties and in coding medical diagnosis. C. Be an active participant in the interview and hiring process for nursing staff. D. Coordinate orientation process for new clinic nursing staff. E. Provide direct supervision for clinic staff, staff evaluations and responsible for disciplinary. F. Take an active role in the departmental Quality committee and quality projects. G. Attend departmental meetings as requested. H. Ability/Flexibility to travel to different OBGYN clinic locations as needed. Teaching 10% A. Teach residents and students. Complete evaluation forms on residents and students B. Exercise sound medical judgment in counseling patients, and explain and/or supplement clinical information, treatment plan, and study protocol, as presented to the patients by the attending physician. C. Provide patient education appropriate for Ob/Gyn patients. Clinical Research 5% A. Assist research personnel with projects, adhering to SCRIBS guidelines, approved protocol and informed consent. Qualifications Credentials to be Verified by Hiring Officer 1 . Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois. 2. Three years of work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse or 2 years work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse with 1 year of supervisory experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) 1. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 2. Ability to work with others as a member of multiple disciplinary team. 3. Problem solving abilities. 4. Adaptability 5. Excellent customer service skills. 6. Ability to function without direct supervision.
