KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Plans, directs & manages general & psychiatric/MR nursing services & programs at Ohio Veterans Home; plans, organizes, develops & implements nursing policies & procedures. Coordinates nursing department quality assurance (QA) &/or Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI); monitors & assures Nursing Department is compliant with external reviewers (e.g. Fire Marshall, Medicare/Medicaid, Ohio Dept. of Health, Veterans Administration). Investigates all unusual problems involving resident care &/or house/unit/program management. Serves as consultant & liaison to subordinates & all other Nursing Department clinical & administrative staff as well as other resources (e.g. community agencies, local, state & federal agencies). Develops & writes nursing policy & procedure manual; assists in preparing & administering departmental budget. Supervises nursing personnel in nursing administration & resident care; recruits, interviews & recommends nursing staff appointments; completes performance evaluations; approves/disapproves leave requests; recommends/implements disciplinary action; hears/adjusts grievances, conducts staff meetings; counsels & advises staff. Analyzes & evaluates nursing & related services rendered to improve quality of resident care & plan better utilization of staff time & activities. Plans & directs orientation & in-service training programs for professional & nonprofessional nursing staff. Conducts &/or attends variety of meetings (e.g. department head, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (i.e., QAPI), pharmacy, infection control, health & safety, utilization review & other health related meetings) & serves on various committees. Represents department of nursing services in institutional planning; reviews & monitors records & reports (e.g., quality indicators, medical incident, infection control) & provides appropriate periodic reports & information on status of nursing care, personnel matters & administrative issues to Nursing Home Administrator. Meets regularly with Medical Director to discuss resident care issues & ensure that resident care objectives are established & met. Has written administrative authority, responsibility & accountability for functions & activities of nursing staff. All other duties as assigned

Qualifications Requires current license as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing & nursing registration per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code; 36 mos. exp. in psychiatric nursing or delivery of nursing services to persons with developmental disabilities; completion of undergraduate core program in nursing; 30 mos. trg. or 30 mos. exp. in management; 30 mos. trg. or 30 mos. exp. in supervision; 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in public relations; 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in counseling. -Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience requirements, but not for the mandated licensure.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree in science and nursing (MSN) Leadership experience in Nursing Leadership experience in Long-term care facilities

Unless otherwise required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be set at the lowest rate of the salary range with gradual increases after completing probation and following successful annual performance evaluations. The final applicant selected for this position may be required to submit to urinalysis prior to an appointment to test for illegal drug use. The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result. Also, an applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for any position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year (not applicable to current state employees).
