Working closely with the Administrator/Director of Professional Services (DOPS), this position is instrumental in shaping both the strategic direction and day-to-day clinical operations of the program. With a strong focus on leadership and vision, the Hospice Manager partners with the Administrator/DOPS to elevate the hospice program, aligning every initiative with the Jewish Association on Aging (JAA)'s mission and commitment to exceptional care. In moments that matter most, the Hospice Manager steps in to lead with confidence—assuming full operational responsibility in the absence of the Administrator/Director of Professional Services and ensuring seamless continuity of care.
JOB SUMMARY
The Hospice Manager is responsible for assisting Administrator/DOPS in the ongoing development and day-to-day clinical operations of the Sivitz Jewish Hospice Program. The position participates in all activities related to professional and paraprofessional services as directed by the Administrator/DOPS. The Hospice Manger provides leadership, strategic direction and vision for the development and achievement of the Hospice program in collaboration with the Administrator/ DOPS in accordance to the JAA's mission. In the absence of the Administrator/ Director of Professional Services the Hospice Manager, fulfills all responsibilities for coverage.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Administers a program for the care of the hospice patients monitoring compliance with all federal and state regulations that includes Medicare Conditions of Participation. In addition, follows acceptable hospice standards of practice. As requested assists hospice leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with JAA Senior management and the Board of Directors. Coordinates and directs the overall administrative operations of the hospice program under the direction of the Administrator/DOPS. Supervises intake and scheduling activities to assure that referrals are addressed timely. Establishes working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups, JAA continuum and other organizations. Provides in home supervisory visits of staff to assure compliance with hospice requirements. As assigned does regular visits to remain current in clinical practice, provide direct oversight of staff assignments; to monitor patient/family satisfaction, etc. Assumes on call responsibility as required. Participates in the preparation of the budget by offering recommendations for operational support. Works closely with Administrator/DOPS,and finance/billing department to assure clinical documentation requirements are met timely for billing. Participates in quality initiatives through chart reviews, training and education of staff. Assists Administrator/DOPS with maintaining current policies and procedures to reflect changes made to federal and state regulations. Assures that clinical records are kept current in accordance with the department and regulatory agency requirements. Maintains a professional standard of conduct, projecting a positiveimage of the JAA at all times. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED
EDUCATION, TRAINING and
EXPERIENCE
1. Degree in nursing or related field along with 5 years supervisory experience and hospice related experience. 2. A minimum of 5 years experience in public health/hospital/long-term care/nursing setting and prefer at least 2 years satisfactory supervisory experience in home health/hospice services.

Ability to manage the affairs of the agency and program administration including knowledge of health care policies and reimbursement practices. Demonstrated effective leadership skills in fiscal management, strategic planning, and program/staff development. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information. Ability to coordinate services with Hospice staff, patients/families and referral sources. Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, set priorities, organize work, and make independent decisions. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Knowledge of Hospice policies and procedures. Ability to use computer programs and learn JAA systems. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to push/pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
