Job Description

General Description:
The Evening House Charge Nurse provides shift‑based leadership and clinical oversight for Medical‑Surgical, Emergency Department, and Labor & Delivery departments. This role ensures safety, high‑quality, and compliant patient care across all departments while supporting nursing staff and coordinating clinical operations. Serving as the primary clinical leader when department leadership is not onsite, the House Charge Nurse functions autonomously, demonstrates strong clinical judgment, and provides hands‑on support during high census, emergencies, and staffing challenges. Technical, clerical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care/area. Works collaboratively with doctors and staff to provide exceptional care. Manages multiple cases simultaneously, prioritizing needs continually. Works at maximum efficiency without compromising quality of care. Conducts self in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure. Provides appropriate teaching and information to patients and families. Maintains required inventory of supplies and equipment in the emergency department. Provide high quality care, evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, and attends all required training and continuing education events. Nurse supervision will be expected to assist in all departments with patient care, admissions, assessments, discharges, transfers and provide nursing care. Other duties may be assigned.
Education:
Must complete an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program and licensed as a Registered Nurse accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing. Current and active Texas State RN License, CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and TNCC are required or will be received upon hire.
Training & Experience:
Registered Nurse accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing. Technical, clerical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care/area. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience. Demonstrated clinical experience in Medical-Surgical nursing. Emergency Department (ED) experience required, willing to learn labor and delivery.
Duty Hours:
(Evening Shift) Monday through Friday evening shift with every 6th weekend on call.
