Summary of Essential Functions Registered Nurse to who is delegated the administrative and clinical responsibility and authority to manage department services and programs. Assists with patient-placement and bed-control activities with case management as needed, nurse managers, unit-based charge nurses, admission staff, physicians, ancillary services, and infection control. Educational Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Licenses and Certifications Licensed as an RN with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas. CPR Certifications. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Nursing experience, which has provided opportunities to refine competencies in nursing practice and application of administrative principles. Demonstrates ability to tolerate ambiguity, be flexible, enthusiastic about and adaptable to progressive change. Demonstrates evidence of commitment and compliance with corporate program. Physical Requirements Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours. Some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids. Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates awareness of Organizational and Divisional standards and policies and uses these as a basis for decision making for both clinical and management issues. Supervises and is organizationally responsible for the direct work of personnel on duty. Demonstrates a good knowledge base in the execution of the nursing process and demonstrates its application. Has the analytical ability to evaluate problem situations in-depth and come to independent, appropriate conclusions. Able to communicate effectively with patient, families, physicians, co-workers, supervisors, and other hospital personnel on a one-on-one basis. Communicates with appropriate unit managers/charge nurses, bed control, and other support departments concerning the necessity for patient placement and assists in eliminating barriers to the placement of patients. Coordinates the utilization of all available resources for patient placement when options have been exhausted and follows bed capacity protocol. Functions as a role model during his/her shift. Offers guidance, support and feedback and may give support of influence in clinical direction. Attends to immediate clinical concerns while making regular rounds of the nursing units. Holds staff accountable for Standards of Behavior/Infection Control/Dress Code, etc by counseling personnel and giving disciplinary action in the absence of a Manager or Director (Notifies management by email or phone call when staff counseled). Renders care in selected instances and is clinically proficient in emergency situations. Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care and decision-making for designated populations. While rounding, evaluates units for consistency with established systems and other standards, such as Joint Commission, medical staff by-laws, TDH, Medicare and Medicaid regulations, divisional philosophy, objectives, Policies, Standards of Care and Procedures. Coordinates administrative support services to provide safe and clean environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Utilizes staffing matrix guidelines and AMR guidelines with staffing decisions and flexing staff due to census/acuity in coordination with MOC or person responsible for staffing division. Demonstrates awareness of the adherence to legal requirements at the hospital and in the Division of Nursing with emphasis on overall hospital issues, and reduce risk awareness.
