Bill Young VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, FL. In this role, you will work directly at the bedside and in the kitchen to ensure Veterans receive medically appropriate, preference-driven meals every day. This is hands-on, mission-driven work that directly impacts the health and comfort of those who have served our country. Manage patient diet orders, meal tickets, and food preferences using Computrition and Vista software, ensuring every tray reflects the current therapeutic diet order Take and enter patient meal orders via Room Service Connect (RMS) by phone, respecting individual diet parameters and food allergies Monitor Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers (ADT) in real time, updating and processing diet changes in Computrition and Vista as they occur Conduct bedside and in-person meal ordering, collecting patient preferences, eating habits, and allergy information to support Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) Perform tray accuracy checks during meal service and complete test trays including temperature and taste testing Carry out in-person patient satisfaction surveys to identify opportunities to improve the dining experience for Veterans Collaborate daily with an interdisciplinary team including RDNs, nursing staff, and Nutrition and Food Service personnel to coordinate seamless patient care•Shifts include: Day•5:30a-2:00p; 6:00a-2:30p; 7:30a-4:00p
Evening:
10:30a•7:00p; 11:00a•7:30p Hands-on experience in food service within a hospital or healthcare environment, including tray delivery and tray assembly procedures Familiarity with regular and modified/therapeutic diets (e.g., renal, diabetic, cardiac, dysphagia/IDDSI-level diets) Experience using dietetics or food service software programs for diet order and meal management Proficiency with basic computer functions including data entry, email, word processing, and common office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service orientation Credential requirement — candidates must hold one of the following: Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) credential OR equivalent qualifying education/experience as outlined in the program requirements What sets candidates apart: Prior experience working in a VA or other federal healthcare facility nutrition and food service department Hands-on familiarity with Computrition or Room Service Connect (RMS) software platforms Demonstrated knowledge of International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) frameworks and/or Medical Nutrition Therapy applications Experience supporting Registered Dietitian Nutritionists in a clinical setting, including patient screening and data collection Background working with diverse patient populations, including older adults or Veterans with complex medical nutrition needs About Akicita FederalAkicita Federal is a Native American-owned federal contractor delivering healthcare, clinical, IT, and program-support services across the Indian Health Service, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other federal agencies.
