Job Description

Position Summary The Jackson County Department On Aging is looking for a person who likes to interact with senior citizens who attend a Senior Nutrition Site. Successful candidate will oversee serving hot lunches which includes proper food handling and organizing volunteers. Will also arrange activities and educational programs. QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer some supervisory experience and previous work (paid or volunteer) with older adults. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential functions include but are not limited to: 1. Orders meals daily according to the nutrition site's needs ensuring proper quantities have been received and maintained at the proper temperature. 2. Ensures proper food handling to promote adequate sanitation. Oversees the serving of meals and necessary clean-up tasks. Ensures proper portion control in accordance with nutritional guidelines. Supervises volunteers who assist with food handling and serving as well as clean-up tasks. 3. Greets new program participants and assists in orienting them. Completes background information on new clients and maintains client intake information. 4. Plans nutrition site activities for each month such as parties, classes, games, and so forth, including the grant contractual requirement of a nutrition education program. 5. Engages nutrition site participants in conversation to promote socialization and to lessen the potential for feelings of isolation. 6. Enlists participation of volunteer workers. Trains volunteers for specific job assignments such as keeping records, collecting meal donations, and checking food temperatures. 7. Oversees the collection of donations from program participants and prepares and makes arrangements for donations to be ready for deposit.
