Job Description & Requirements Occupational Therapist•Skilled•(OT)
As an OT, you will assess patients' physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities to determine areas for improvement. You will develop individualized treatment plans and implement therapeutic activities to enhance patients' daily living skills, focusing on activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and self-feeding. You will also provide education to patients and their families on coping strategies and assistive devices. In skilled nursing facilities, OTs emphasize retraining for activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental ADLs, including home management, money management, medication management, and community re-entry tasks. You may also incorporate preparatory activities to help patients regain independence and improve functional mobility. Specific patient ratios and bed counts are not detailed, but you typically work with patients who require subacute rehabilitation after hospital discharge, aiming to increase safety and independence before returning home or transitioning to another care setting.
