Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The COTA provides unique therapeutic services to enhance the goals and objectives of current TJS students. The COTA is primarily responsible for implementing the therapeutic programs prescribed by the Occupational Therapist.
Location:
This position will be split between two of our campuses, with the majority of time spent at our Joshua Early Childhood Center (JECC) in Centennial. The COTA will also provide support at our Boulder campus approximately 2-4 days per month. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel between campuses.
Caseload:
Approximately 45 students across both campuses: JECC (Centennial): 24 students; therapist provides all direct services with no additional COTA support.
Boulder:
20 students; supported by a COTA who provides direct therapy services two days per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To supervise and care for students addressing their physical, emotional health and safety, recognizing their worth, affirming their abilities and striving to promote dignity in all relationships. Implement the individualized/small group therapeutic program prescribed by the Occupational Therapist based on IEP goals and objectives. Assist Occupational Therapist to determine the extent to which goals and objectives are being met by collecting and maintaining data on individual student goals. Assist Occupational Therapist in formulating new goals based on data analysis. Utilize task analysis to suggest techniques to the educational team with regard to feeding, activities of daily living, sensory, gross motor, fine motor, and other skills needed for school performance. Promote independence in activities of daily living through problem solving, suggesting modifications or adaptations, and skilled observation of the student(s). Observe, problem solve and suggest positioning techniques to enhance educational participation and maximize function. Consult and coach classroom staff through gathering and sharing information at team meetings, when requested. Discuss and exchange information about the students assigned with the Occupational Therapist. Collaborate with colleagues and parents in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs. Complete and update personnel file. Other duties as assigned by Program Director and Occupational Therapist.

Education/Experience:
A commitment to working with young people with developmental disabilities. Valid certificate from NBCOT. Valid Colorado Licensure as a COTA from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. Experience working with children with developmental disabilities. Experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis. Minimum age of 21; maturity and reliability is a must. Good driving record and valid driver's license.

Computer/Technical Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software, Google Suite software and knowledge of data collection platform software.

This role routinely uses iPads, laptops, copy machines, walkie talkies. This job also requires driving staff and students into the community, interacting with community and vocational partners. This job involves activities with students and staff, including skiing, swimming, exercise routines, attending camp, and other active community outings. Extended or non-traditional work hours may sometimes be required. 20% local travel may be expected in this role. Noise level is low to loud. Staff should anticipate an environment that includes students in crisis (aggression, contact with bodily fluids, property destruction, screaming, self-injurious behavior).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds, stand, run, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and sit in small chairs or on the floor. The employee is occasionally required to lift and carry up to 150 pounds, with help from another employee. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and use hands to manipulate large and small objects. The employee must be able to speak and hear (including whispers in loud environments). The employee must pass certification for verbal and physical crisis intervention training (Safety CAre). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
