About Us & the
Role:
LABBB Collaborative provides educational programming and support services for over 300 special needs students from over 65 districts. LABBB serves students ages 3 to 22 years old with a variety of special needs including students on the autism spectrum, students with multi-handicaps, pervasive development disorders, developmental delays, language deficits and social/emotional challenges. The LABBB community has a vision of skill-based instruction that considers the whole student from early childhood to adult living. The Occupational Therapist works under the supervision of the Department Head and Program Director. As a multidisciplinary team member, the therapist helps students access and participate in their educational environment, promoting independence, self-regulation, functional skills, and participation in academic, vocational, community, and daily living activities.
Job Requirements:
- Masters degree from an approved Occupational Therapy program
- Valid License/Certification to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Massachusetts
- Strong background in the use of assistive technology and equipment related to occupational therapy.
- Willingness and experience working with students with diverse learning, developmental, physical, sensory, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Valid driver's license and ability to commute between buildings/programs during the day.
- Ability and willingness to drive LABBB van (as required by program)
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct occupational therapy services for children and adolescents in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations for educational and school-based purposes
- Use observation and various formal and informal assessments to conduct appropriate assessments of students in all phases of the evaluation process as related to occupational therapy in the school setting
- Write and implement goals, objectives, accommodations, modifications, service delivery, transition planning, and summary of student performance as needed for the IEP
- Attend IEP meetings to communicate results of evaluations/ re-evaluations, goals, objectives, accommodations, modifications, intervention plan, and type of service delivery needed.
- Attend required staff meetings; professional development trainings; and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees
- Provide support and training to school-based teams to support generalization of skills in all settings
- Complete regular documentation including data collection, progress notes, individualized education plans, formal and informal assessments, and Medicaid billing as indicated
- Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants as requested by the department head
- Maintain familiarity with standardized tests and therapy materials, equipment and devices and make recommendations for the acquisition of such items when they are required for therapy.
- Supports students in accessing and participating in their educational environment by promoting independence, self-regulation, functional skills, and meaningful participation across academic, vocational, community, and daily living activities.
- Provide and facilitate meaningful inclusion opportunities for students into regular education classrooms as indicated
- Create and modify curriculum materials, supports, and instructional strategies as necessary to meet students' needs in the classroom and community settings.
Other Duties:
- Collaborate with members of multidisciplinary teams including teachers, BCBA, PT, SLP, Counselors, nursing, and Vision providers and implement treatment plans as needed or requested to support skill development, generalization and transition planning across settings and throughout the day
- Show respect and compassion for all members of the classroom and school environment including students, families, staff, and other community members.
- Uphold LABBB's mission and core values as well as adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the field and contribute to a positive and safe school culture
- Support students' personal care needs tailored to the student's age which may include activities of daily living (ADL's) such as communication, toileting, feeding, self-care, personal hygiene, grooming and assistance with mobility including lifting.
- Maintain licensure and professional competence by attending staff development programs, and other professional activities as well as understanding and applying principles taught in training and seminars to the educational environment including de-escalation and restraint training ( as required by program) etc.
- Travel between schools for services, consultations and Team meetings as needed
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Coordinator or Program Director or other appropriate administrator.
- Staff members may be asked to work closely with the Health Office and undergo additional training to facilitate delegation of medication in the community setting.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday; 7 hour work day (times vary depending on caseload and school location)
Salary Range:
$72,457 to $133,474, commensurate with experience and education.
- 2026-2027 Salary range is for school year and includes compensation for required 4-week summer program.
