Job Description

Occupational Therapist (OTR) - School-Based Contract Opportunity Asheville, North Carolina Join a Team That Values Excellence, Collaboration, and Making a Difference Junction of Function, Inc. is seeking highly qualified and passionate Occupational Therapists (OTRs) to provide school-based services within a public school district in Asheville, North Carolina. We currently have multiple full-time opportunities available, including both annual placements and maternity leave coverage assignments. Due to increasing service needs within the district, we are seeking therapists who are committed to helping students develop the skills necessary to participate successfully in their educational environment. This opportunity is ideal for experienced school-based therapists, as well as pediatric clinicians looking to transition into educational settings with the support of an experienced mentorship team. Position Overview The Occupational Therapist will provide evaluation, consultation, intervention, and support services to students ranging from Pre-K through High School. Services will be delivered in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), federal and state regulations, and district guidelines. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with educators, families, administrators, school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and other related service providers to promote student independence, participation, and success within the school environment. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for identifying barriers to student participation, developing effective intervention plans, and implementing evidence-based strategies that support educational outcomes and functional performance. Essential Responsibilities Assessment and Evaluation Select and administer appropriate occupational therapy assessments and clinical observations. Conduct comprehensive evaluations that identify student strengths, areas of need, and educational impact. Prepare detailed, professional, and legally defensible evaluation reports. Develop practical recommendations to support student participation and achievement within the school setting. Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations and eligibility determinations as appropriate. Intervention and Service Delivery Develop individualized intervention plans aligned with student educational goals. Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy services as outlined within IEPs. Implement evidence-based interventions that address fine motor, visual motor, sensory processing, self-help, and functional school participation skills. Monitor student progress and adjust intervention strategies as needed to maximize outcomes. Assist students in developing the skills necessary for academic success and independence. Collaboration and Consultation Collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, special education teams, and families. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (IEP) meetings and assist with interpretation of evaluation findings. Provide consultation and recommendations regarding accommodations, modifications, classroom supports, and assistive strategies. Offer professional development and guidance to educational staff regarding student needs and intervention techniques. Support parents and caregivers by communicating progress and providing strategies that can be implemented across environments. Documentation and Compliance Maintain organized, accurate, and timely documentation. Complete evaluations, reports, progress notes, and service records in accordance with district and regulatory timelines. Ensure compliance with federal and state special education regulations. Utilize electronic documentation systems and district-required platforms as applicable.
Professional Qualifications Applicants must possess:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program. Active North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy (NCBOT) License. Professional Liability Insurance. Ability to successfully complete all required background screenings. Minimum of two years of experience providing therapy and evaluation services preferred. School-based experience preferred but not required. Strong written communication and report-writing skills. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and time-management abilities.
