Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a vital role supporting students with visual impairments across multiple school sites as a part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the upcoming academic year. In this impactful position, you'll deliver direct and consultative services to support Pre-K through high school students in achieving greater independence and safe navigation within school and community environments. With 2-3 in-person days each month, you will make a significant difference for students across all district campuses.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field National certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) through ACVREP required K-12 teaching certification Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, spanning early learners through high school Strong communication skills for staff and family collaboration Proficiency teaching daily living skills and mobility techniques for a range of ages and ability levels
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction and consultative orientation and mobility services to meet each student's unique needs Assess orientation and mobility skills, develop personalized instructional plans, and monitor progress Deliver training in daily living skills, pre-cane and cane techniques, and safe route and community travel Collaborate closely with educational staff and families to help students fully access educational settings Conduct staff training sessions and support safe, independent travel training district wide Complete documentation in accordance with best practices and relevant guidelines You'll enjoy a contract position offering flexibility with concise monthly hours, the variety of working across grade levels, and the satisfaction of fostering independence in students.
