Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Support students in their development and confidence with an opportunity as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a school-based setting. This contract role provides critical instruction and guidance, allowing students with visual impairments to gain independence and essential travel skills. Candidates should bring expertise in Orientation and Mobility training, along with compassion and adaptability to work within an educational environment. Your impact will be felt as you help students navigate school grounds, engage in the community, and develop skills for lifelong learning.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience providing O&M services in schools or with children and adolescents Excellent communication and record-keeping abilities Collaborative mindset to work alongside educators, support staff, and families Compassion and enthusiasm for empowering students with visual impairments
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students as directed by individual educational plans (IEPs) Develop and implement customized O&M instructional plans targeting student needs Teach students safe, efficient, and effective travel skills in school and community environments Consult and collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to support student progress and inclusion Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports Provide resources and strategies to school staff as needed This contract position offers a meaningful, hands-on experience working directly with students who benefit tremendously from your expertise.
