Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students across Pre-K through High School as a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This rewarding contract opportunity allows you to support visually impaired and blind students in developing crucial skills for navigating their world with independence and confidence. You'll bring your expertise to a variety of schools, working in-person across all districts to support the unique needs of each student.
Key Qualifications:
Master's degree and current national certification through ACVREP required Certified to teach K12 students Previous experience providing orientation and mobility instruction to children and adolescents Ability to develop and implement proactive plans that build safety and independence for low vision or blind clients Skilled in both direct instruction and consultative services Strong communication and collaboration abilities with educational teams and families Knowledge of pre-cane, cane skills, daily living skills, route travel, and community travel techniques
Primary Responsibilities:
Assess individual student needs and design custom orientation and mobility programs district-wide Teach safe and effective travel skills, including pre-cane, cane, and advanced navigation Conduct individual and group sessions to foster independence in home, school, and community settings Consult with staff and families to ensure supportive environments for student progress Track student growth, maintain records, and contribute to IEP processes Deliver staff training to enhance school-wide capacity for supporting students with visual impairments Flexible, part-time schedule—work 2-3 days monthly for a total of 20-25 hours per week during the school year.
