Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Empower students by sharing your expertise as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a dynamic school setting. As part of this rewarding contract position, you'll guide students in building confidence, independence, and essential navigation skills. Collaborate closely with dedicated educators and families, and deliver meaningful instruction that transforms lives.
Key Qualifications:
Hold national certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Proven experience working with children and youth in educational settings Strong understanding of a variety of mobility aids and adaptive techniques Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to individualized, student-centered learning strategies Ability to adapt lessons to fit a wide range of abilities and learning styles
Responsibilities:
Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments Develop and implement tailored travel instruction plans to build confidence and independence Teach safe, effective techniques for navigating school, home, and community environments Coordinate with teachers, families, and support staff to maximize student progress Mentor classroom teams on fostering accessible learning environments Maintain accurate records of assessments, instruction, and progress reports This opportunity offers a flexible contract schedule within a supportive educational community dedicated to creating accessible learning experiences.
