Plans and implements therapy program to facilitate rehabilitation of children with developmental delays.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reviews medical reports, psychological reports, social history and other pertinent records of referred children. Evaluates children including interviews with family, observation of student and administration of standardized and non-standardized procedures in order to identify performance levels. Evaluates gross and fine motor skills, reflex development; developmental milestones/ sensoriperceptuomotor functioning; neuromuscular functioning; self-help skills and activities of daily living; prevocational skills and social and interactional skills. Analyzes and synthesizes evaluation results to develop therapy goals and treatment plans. Prepares, presents and coordinates annual goals and short term performance objectives of the therapy program as a part of the IEP or IFSP in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team program. Determines need for and recommends appropriate adaptive equipment needed by the child to enhance performance abilities and instructs the child, family and staff in its proper use. Participates in meetings regarding students and programs. May need to travel to off-site locations to provide services. Prepares and coordinates therapy program with teachers for classroom carryover of therapeutic program. Maintains current, accurate records, files and charts regarding types of treatment; procedures utilized; child's response to therapy; progress made; equipment or devices recommended; and consultations with physician, family or staff. Maintains records which are dated and signed by the therapist, including an initial evaluation, annual evaluation, documentation of treatments provided, monthly review of progress and upon discharge, a summary of treatment results, reason for discharge and follow-up recommendations. Encourages the child to actively participate in purposeful activities to enhance development of fine motor skills, sensorimotor integration, visual-motor skills, neuromuscular functioning, personal and social relationships, prevocational skills and self-help abilities. Suggests adaptations to the child's environment to ensure proper positioning for maximal independent functioning in school and home and for ease of access. Discusses with school staff and parents via formal and informal conferences, the therapy component of the total IEP or IFSP Program. Provides and participates in in-service educational programs related to therapy principles and concepts. Keeps abreast of legal responsibilities, professional ethics, standards of practice and agency policies. Maintains current certification or licensure as required by state regulations. Provides for own professional growth by attending seminars, conferences, courses and in-services. Attends all staff meetings and training programs (30 hours of in-service training during each license period every 2 years). Other duties as assigned.
