In this role, you will work closely with school-aged children (k-12) who are receiving special education services to improve their fine motor, visual-motor, sensory processing, and self-regulation skills. Your primary focus will be to enhance students' functional performance and independence in daily school routines, academic tasks, and classroom environments. You will implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique structural and functional needs. Key Responsibilities •
Therapeutic Support:
Design and implement individual or group occupational therapy sessions focused on fine motor control, handwriting, sensory integration, and activities of daily living (ADLs). •
Data Collection & Reporting:
Track student progress accurately, complete detailed quarterly progress reports, and write comprehensive annual review evaluations. •
Collaboration & Training:
Partner with classroom teachers, special education staff, and families to recommend classroom modifications, sensory strategies, and assistive tools that support student success. •
Student Support:
Provide hands-on direct support with empathy and respect, fostering a positive and motivating learning environment. •
Confidentiality:
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all school district policies, HIPAA regulations, and FERPA standards. •
Professional Development:
Participate in continuing education to keep clinical skills sharp and stay current with school-based occupational therapy advancements. Skills and Qualifications •
Experience:
Previous experience working with pediatric populations or within a school district (both) setting is preferred. •
Technical Knowledge:
Deep understanding of pediatric occupational therapy interventions, sensory processing frameworks, and fine motor mechanics. Clear understanding of IEP structures. •
Licensure:
Valid New York State License as an Occupational Therapist (OT) is required. •
Communication:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with school teams and translate therapeutic concepts for families. •
Data Literacy:
Competent in regular data collection, standardized clinical assessments, tracking data, and electronic documentation systems. Join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families through dedicated occupational therapy support.
