The Clinical Hand Therapist is responsible for the direct supervision of clinical operations and functions related to evaluation, treatment, education and testing of assigned patients. In the absence of the other Clinical Hand Therapists, the incumbent will assume a leadership role when called upon for the absent Clinical Hand Therapist's treatment team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Develops and implements a rehabilitation treatment program including the use of therapeutic exercise, modalities and activities in pursuit of individual patient goals. Monitors response of patient to treatment and modifies treatment based on patient needs. Fabricates and provides adaptive devices as necessary. Orders durable medical equipment to enable patient achievement of personal goals. Fabricates splints. Apply appropriate modalities to facilitate the healing process. Provides treatment that includes, but is not limited to: A/PROM, joint mobilization, massage, wound care, scar management, manual resistive exercises, and desensitization. Supervises patient participation in functional activities program. Assists with other duties as outlined by the manager. Documents patient status in accordance with organizational standards and required timelines, including but not limited to include: Evaluations
- within 2 days of the encounter Established hand patient
- within one day of the encounter Re-evaluations
- within one day of the encounter Discharge
- within 8 weeks from the last date of the last patient encounter Splint note
- within one day of the encounter DME note
- within one day of the encounter Completes billing in the practice management system within one day of the encounter.
Participates openly and honestly in staff meetings, particularly surrounding issues paramount to patient care delivery. Provides training and practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, and activities of daily living. Consults with other members of rehabilitation team to select activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of individual and to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities. Selects constructive activities suited to individual's physical, cognitive, functional, and psychosocial abilities to upgrade individual to maximum independence, prepare individual for return to employment, assist in restoration of functions, and aid in adjustment to disability. Teaches individuals skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates individual's progress. Designs and constructs special equipment for individuals and suggests adaptation of individual's work-living environment. Conducts training programs or participates in training medical and nursing students and other workers in occupational therapy techniques and objectives. Supervises Students of Occupational Therapy as assigned OAA reserves the right to modify job duties and responsibilities based on business needs. Supervisory Responsibilities Provides clinical supervision and direction to COTAs, aides, and students in accordance with applicable state practice regulations. Education and/or Experience Graduate of Occupational Therapy Program of an Accredited University or College. 2 years or more experience in Hand Therapy is preferred but new graduates are welcome to apply Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, registrations, and credentials necessary to perform the duties of the position as a condition of employment. Maintain current CPR and AED certification. Must have National Certificate issued by NBCOT to practice OT. CHT designation by HTCC is advised, but candidates can be working towards CHT Other Skills and Abilities Ability to multitask Flexible team player Computer database software and Internet software Problem-solving skills Ability to communicate effectively and develop and maintain effective relationships Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday. Ability to assist patients with transfers and therapeutic activities. Ability to perform fine motor tasks including splint fabrication and wound care. Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
