Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful contract role providing essential orientation and mobility services to students in the Allentown, PA area. This opportunity is ideal for a certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) seeking a full-time assignment covering a leave beginning 8/31/2026. You'll play a crucial part in empowering students with visual impairments to navigate their environments safely and independently.
Key Qualifications:
Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required Experience working within school settings strongly preferred Strong understanding of practices and techniques for orientation, mobility, and safe travel training Excellent communication skills with students, staff, and families Compassionate, patient, and committed to empowering students of diverse backgrounds and abilities
Primary Responsibilities:
Assess students' orientation and mobility needs through individualized evaluations Develop and implement personalized instructional plans to enhance navigation and travel skills Collaborate with teachers, special educators, and support staff to integrate O&M goals within students' educational plans Instruct students on the use of adaptive equipment, sensory development, and route planning Advocate for accessibility and provide recommendations for environmental modifications as needed Maintain detailed documentation and progress reports in compliance with school and state guidelines Engage families and caregivers in supporting students' mobility independence
