Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful contract role as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, providing essential make-up services for a student with complex needs in a home-based setting. This part-time opportunity offers immediate placement for the full school year, with a schedule of two 40-minute sessions per week. If your schedule allows, flexibility can be accommodated to ensure the best fit for both you and the student.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) endorsement required Experience supporting students with complex needs, especially in individualized or home-based environments Strong understanding of spatial and positional concepts and ability to teach these skills Familiarity with school-based O&M goals and Pennsylvania standards is a plus Compassionate, patient, and collaborative approach
Responsibilities:
Deliver specialized Orientation and Mobility instruction in a home setting according to the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Focus on O&M goal attainment: supporting the student in using spatial/positional concepts (left/right, near/far, in/out) to navigate their familiar indoor environment and locate specific features such as doorways and furniture Track progress and goal mastery, ensuring the student can locate targets accurately during sessions Communicate regularly with caregivers and educational partners, contributing to the holistic growth of the student Adjust teaching methods to accommodate the unique needs and learning pace of the student You'll find fulfillment working closely with a student to foster their independence and mobility.
