Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Make a difference in a student's life as a part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) with a contract opportunity in the Canonsburg area. Bring your expertise to a dedicated family with an immediate need for make-up sessions in a supportive home environment. This role provides the rewarding opportunity to positively impact a student with complex needs, helping them gain independence and confidence through tailored instruction and compassionate guidance.
Role Overview:
Deliver orientation and mobility services for the full school year, working two 40-minute sessions per week. Utilize your advanced skills to help a student develop spatial and positional awareness, enabling safe movement within a familiar home environment. Foster the student's ability to identify and navigate to specific features (such as doorways and furniture) using concepts like left/right, near/far, and in/out as outlined by individual learning goals and the Expanded Core Curriculum standards. Collaborate with caregivers, educators, and the support team to maximize instructional outcomes. Observe, document, and report progress based on clear O&M objectives and benchmarks.
Qualifications:
Current endorsement as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Experience supporting students with complex developmental or sensory needs is highly desired. Compassionate, patient, and adaptable, with excellent communication and organizational skills. Commitment to evidence-based teaching and individualized instruction. Comfortable providing direct services in a home setting.
