Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract An educational institution in Williamsport, PA is seeking a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support visually impaired students for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This contract role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing specialized mobility instruction and fostering independence among students with visual impairments.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in referral and assessment processes to identify orientation and mobility needs. Conduct thorough evaluations covering concept development, environmental orientation, safe travel techniques, low vision devices usage, sensory development, self-advocacy, personal safety, and effective vision utilization. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEP/IFSP) with tailored O&M goals and objectives. Recommend program modifications or specialized services aligned with each student's visual impairment. Deliver direct instructional services and consult with staff, families, and community members. Manage ordering, distribution, and maintenance of canes and low-vision travel devices. Monitor student progress through ongoing criterion-based assessments and maintain accurate documentation. Conduct in-service training for school personnel, families, and community stakeholders. Advise on designing safe and efficient school environments for visually impaired students. Maintain a valid state driver's license and provide transportation as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility. Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP). Demonstrated experience in assessment, instruction, and consultation within school settings.
