Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, cognitive, and sensory abilities to determine therapy needs. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with best practices and patient goals. Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) to promote independence in personal care, grooming, and mobility. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including speech therapists, physicians, educators, and case managers to coordinate care. Support discharge planning by preparing patients for transition to home or other care settings through education and resource linkage. Work with individuals across the lifespan—from pediatrics in early intervention programs to geriatrics in skilled nursing facilities—addressing specific needs related to disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders. Maintain accurate medical documentation and manage electronic health records (EHR) efficiently to ensure compliance and continuity of care. Provide specialized support for autism spectrum disorders (ASD), working with children and adults on communication, social skills, and sensory integration. Engage in case management activities to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and ensure optimal patient outcomes. Stay current with evidence-based practices by integrating the latest research into therapy approaches. Skills Strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy relevant to occupational therapy interventions. Experience assisting with ADLs and discharge planning across various healthcare settings. Proven ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders—including autism spectrum disorders—and special education needs. Skilled in medical terminology and documentation standards required for accurate record keeping. Proficiency managing electronic health records (EHR) systems for efficient patient data management. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with patients, families, educators, and healthcare teams. Ability to adapt therapy techniques for inpatient settings skilled nursing facilities. Knowledge of pediatric early intervention programs as well as adult occupational health initiatives. Experience supporting speech therapy efforts or working alongside speech-language pathologists is a plus.
