Job Description

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
Qualifications:
Licensed to practice therapy by South Carolina Excellent written and oral communication skills Experience in pediatric setting preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team Sufficient computer skills to prepare necessary reports and for records maintenance Strong knowledge and applications of assistive technology Evidence of successful work relationships with colleagues Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and Job Goal To provide services that enable students to have a successful educational experience by providing evaluation, consultation,and therapy for students having or suspected of having a disability. Performance Responsibilities Conducts evaluations to ascertain the need for therapy. Prepares a written report of evaluation with recommendations. Provides therapy in accord with IEP or district requirements. Participates in IEP meetings. Selects and recommends, with approval of the supervisor, appropriate evaluation and therapy materials for use in the district. Consults with general and special education teachers regarding the needs of students with disabilities. Plans and provides staff development on selected topics for both general and special education staff. Operates computers, audio-visual, and other specified or instructional equipment and devices when required for the specified student. Works with personnel of community and public health service agencies as necessary to ensure effective services and transitions. Assures compliance with local, state, and federal law, regulations, and/or policies of the district as applicable to the area of service. Attends meetings, participates in staff development as required by the district. Maintains student records, Medicaid, and other documentation as required by district policies, practices, and in professional practice guidelines. Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Director of Special Services for the effective operation of the district's programs. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Require vision (which may be corrected) to read the small print. Require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach, and bend. Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects. Perform lifting, pushing, and/or pulling in order to implement Individual Education Plans and to provide appropriate therapy for assigned students. Is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, multiple or single classroom environments.
Terms of Employment:
School year schedule to be specified on a yearly contract.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Service Personnel.
