Empower students with visual impairments to navigate confidently and independently! A full-time contract opportunity is available for an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support learners across multiple campuses near Mesquite, TX, beginning in September 2026. In this itinerant role, you will collaborate with students, families, and school teams to provide both direct and consultative orientation and mobility services. Your caseload will include 12-15 students ranging from early childhood through high school, as well as one infant in early intervention, each with unique abilities and needs. By tailoring instruction and adapting environments, you will help students enhance independence and access meaningful educational experiences.

Qualifications and Experience:

Current, active COMS (Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist) licensure Experience working in a school-based setting or with children and adolescents with visual impairments Strong skills in assessing, planning, and implementing O&M services Ability to travel between several school sites and homes within the district Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills Commitment to fostering confidence and self-advocacy in students

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver individualized and group orientation and mobility training Conduct assessments and develop data-driven instructional plans Consult with teachers, parents, and school staff to support student goals Adapt environments and strategies to maximize student access and participation Support transitions between school, community, and home settings Maintain accurate documentation and progress notes This is a rewarding full-time contract position (37.5 hours/week, 7.5 hours/day, Monday-Friday) starting September 8, 2026 through May 28, 2027.
