9608423-78380 Job Description Make a meaningful difference in students lives as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist supporting schools in the scenic Southeast Texas Coast. This rewarding contract opportunity begins August 3, 2026, running through May 28, 2027, and offers approximately 20 hours per week, allowing you to maintain a balanced schedule while making a direct impact on a community in urgent need. The district has highlighted a critical shortage of specialists in the area, creating a unique opportunity for your expertise to truly matter.
Requirements:
Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Certification AVCREP Certification or equivalent credentials Must complete Texas fingerprinting for credentialing (expedited process required if not already completed) Previous experience working with school-aged children preferred Flexibility to work across multiple school sites as assigned Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
Responsibilities:
Provide specialized orientation and mobility training to help visually impaired students develop safe, independent travel skills Assess student needs and create individualized plans addressing ages and abilities Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure comprehensive support Conduct regular progress monitoring and maintain detailed records Travel to assigned campuses within the district (assignment details to be finalized after upcoming administrative meetings) Participate in school meetings as required and contribute expertise to educational teams Enjoy the flexibility of part-time hours while supporting a district experiencing an outstanding need for your skills.
