POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, assists the in the practice of occupational therapy to include developmental deficits, activities of daily living, work conditioning, range of motion, coordination, balance endurance, cognition, and implementing exercise programs to restore function and increase strength.
POPULATION SERVED
Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Cardiac/cardiovascular, neuro, orthopedic, spine care, pulmonary including but not limited to CVA/TIA, joint replacement/fracture repair, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Pat ient care: D irects and aides patients in active and passive exercise programs, leisure activities, ADL training, coordination, balance, endurance, cognition, work conditioning, perceptual-motor activities as directed by Occupational Therapist. Assists in fabricating splints as directed by Occupational Therapist. Communicates any change in patient's condition to Occupational Therapist.
Documentation:
Complete documentation of patient's chart which includes: daily progress notes, team conference reports, family conference reports, and daily charges.
Supervision:
D irect activities of technicians, students and volunteers as assigned.
Interdisciplinary Interactions:
Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team regarding: patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, and recommendations.
Quality:
Assists the clinical supervisor with implementation of new programs as needed. Involved with Quality Assessment and Improvement Plan.
Department compliance:
C omplies with department Policy and Procedures, Safety/Infection Control Plans, OSHA, guidelines Employee Handbook and standards of regulatory bodies (The Joint Commission, Medicare, CARF, etc ) Demonstrates Customer Service/AIDET principles and behaviors appropriately. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
Licensed by Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
BCLS REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associates degree as Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant from and accredited program
PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 1-2
years experience in any therapy setting Knowledge of Occupational Therapy principles and practices, general anatomy and physiology, diseases and post surgical conditions, body movements and functions, and medical terminology. Bilingual in English and Spanish
