Days Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for administering modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff Occupational Therapist (OT). The COTA will administer treatments as directed by the staff Occupational Therapist, after the Occupational Therapist has evaluated the patient. The COTA shall be responsible for therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position's qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards. The COTA shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribute to program development, quality improvement, and problem solving and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS
: Graduate from an Associate degree program for Occupational Therapy Assistant required Current COTA license with the State of Texas required CPR certification required. Hand Therapy experience is preferred Good written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to read, write and speak English Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians Prefer outpatient experience
Responsibilities:
Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice Therapeutic interventions result in positive outcomes as judged by program evaluation and patient satisfaction. Demonstrates understanding of contraindications and precautions with the application of modalities based on the patient's age and associated potential risk factors. Uses positive feedback to promote patient participation in their rehabilitation program. Communicates with patients in terms that are understandable based on individual age and understanding ability. Community based therapeutic activities are provided to facilitate skill generalization. Formalized and goal directed educational / training activities are provided at an appropriate level of understanding per the patient's age and cognitive abilities. Other members of the team are consulted to coordinate therapeutic activities. Patient response to the treatment plan is evaluated as evidenced by patient achievement of goals and/or goal revision, the treatment plan is updated as needed and/or on a weekly basis. Information is provided to patient/family and occupational therapist regarding current status, program planning and discharge plans throughout the rehabilitation program. Document the course of patient care including progress made and continuing need for treatment. Provide patient and family education on tasks and resources that will assist with continued functional independence. Collaborate with Occupational Therapists to develop new methods of delivering education to patients and family. Coordinate treatment activity with supervising OT and other disciplines and team members. Attends team meetings and offers ideas/solutions in problem solving situations/activities regarding the program. Contribute to development of improved efficiency and productivity of center clinical and administrative functions. Participate in survey preparation by completing assigned tasks as requested and submitting data as requested. Utilizes resources appropriately and uses/maintains equipment in order to prolong working life. Other duties as assigned.

: Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.
