SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and the supervision of the LUSD Occupational Therapist(s), the (Certified) Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA/COTA) provides direct services to assist individuals who have mental, physical, developmental, or emotional disabilities that impact their educational performance. The (C)OTA also assists in the procurement, preparation, and maintenance of materials and supplies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Demonstrate knowledge and experience in working with pre-school and school age students in the provision of services as a (C)OTA Graduation from an approved program for Occupational Therapy Assistants Two years of experience as a (C)OTA with a primary focus on pediatric clients within a school setting preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES REGISTRATIONS
Valid OTA License from the California Board of Occupational Therapy Valid Certification Preferred from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Valid California Driver's License Availability of private transportation to travel between school sites First Aid and CPR Certification Live Scan Fingerprint clearance with Department of Justice TB Clearance
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct treatment assistance to students to meet occupational therapy needs Collaborate with other personnel for the purpose of implementing recommendations by the supervising therapist for practices and procedures Complies with district, state, and federal laws and mandates for the purpose of providing a legal and effective program Follow and implement documented treatment plans or protocols Document student progress toward meeting established objectives and report information to the supervising therapist. Assist the therapist during assessments Prepare therapy materials and/or equipment for use in therapy activities In accordance with students' Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), adapt or modify instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student need and ability Assist in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts, records, graphs, and/or reports Perform record keeping and clerical functions (i.e, scheduling, copying, etc) for the purpose of supporting the supervising therapist with evaluation results, treatment, and follow-up as well as submitting these and other required reports in a timely fashion Maintain and follow through on plans for the purpose of assisting in the training of students, family, and staff in the use of adaptive equipment Meet with supervising therapist as required Maintain an organized, effective daily schedule Perform other duties as assigned by site or district administration
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Special education laws, regulations and requirements including IEP and IFSP process and procedures Instructional strategies, methods, techniques and concepts related to motor and sensory development Instructional strategies, methods, techniques related to providing service and instruction to students with a variety of learning and behavioral needs General and special education curriculum to support access to curriculum General child development including common disabling condition and theory of practice for students with disabilities Basic math, record-keeping strategies, composition of reports including correct English grammar usage, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
ABILITY TO
Communicate in a clear, concise and effective manner both orally and in written format Access and utilize effectively computer-based software for the purpose of completing required assessments, reports and IEP related documents Schedule and attend a variety of activities related to services to students including service times, meetings, and related events Gather, collate and organize data and provide information to school personnel for the purpose of improving student performance and access to curriculum Collaborate with a variety of school personnel to support the instructional goals for students Work with a variety of students and families with varying learning, emotional and behavioral needs
