POSITION SUMMARY
The Part-Time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will provide occupational therapy services to students with developmental disabilities in a school setting under the direct supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). The COTA will assist the OT with assessing students' functional abilities, implementing individualized treatment plans, collaborating with educators and families, and supporting the development and execution of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to enhance students' participation in educational activities and promote independence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist the supervising OT in conducting comprehensive evaluations of students' fine motor, gross motor, sensory processing, self-regulation, and activities of daily living skills to help determine eligibility for occupational therapy services. Implement, monitor, and support individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising OT based on assessment findings and in collaboration with the IEP team, including teachers, parents, and other professionals. Provide direct occupational therapy services to students, both individually and in groups, using evidence-based practices as directed by the OT to improve participation in school routines and activities. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff under the direction of the OT to integrate therapy goals into classroom and home environments, including adapting materials, environments, and assistive technology as needed. Participate in the development, review, and implementation of IEPs under the supervision of the OT, ensuring occupational therapy goals align with students' educational objectives. Document therapy sessions, progress notes, and supporting evaluation information in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring compliance with school district, state, and federal regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). All documentation will be reviewed by the supervising OT. Provide training and support to school staff and families on strategies recommended by the OT to enhance students' functional skills and independence in daily activities. Manage and maintain occupational therapy equipment and resources under the direction of the OT, including preparing, ordering, and constructing adaptive devices as necessary. Stay current with best practices in occupational therapy through continuing education and professional development activities. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for students during therapy sessions, adhering to all school safety protocols and procedures. Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education to maintain licensure and certifications, and to stay informed about advancements in the field. Participate in mandatory vaccine programs, as applicable, and participate in related testing requirements. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited OTA program. Current licensure as an COTA in Colorado. Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred. Combined education, training, and experience resulting in a strong familiarity with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to occupational therapy in a school setting for students with developmental disabilities. Experience in a school-based or pediatric setting preferred. Intermediate level of technical proficiency, including MS Office. Mandatory Reporter certification, or completion of Mandatory Reporters of Child Abuse & Neglect training within 1 week of employment. Valid CPR, First Aid, and/or BLS certification, if/as required. Must pass a full criminal background check and professional reference checks.
