School-Based Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)Position Summary The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide occupational therapy services to students in a school setting. The COTA assists students in developing the skills needed to participate successfully in educational activities and achieve their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Implement occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist. Provide direct therapy services to students individually or in group settings. Assist students in improving fine motor, visual-motor, sensory processing, self-care, handwriting, and classroom participation skills. Monitor student progress and document therapy sessions according to district, state, and federal requirements. Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, administrators, and families to support student success. Assist in gathering data for evaluations and re-evaluations. Maintain therapy equipment, materials, and records. Participate in IEP meetings as requested and provide input regarding student progress. Follow all school district policies, special education regulations, and professional ethical standards. Travel between school sites as assigned. Qualifications Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Current state licensure/certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), if required by state regulations. Experience working with children or in educational settings preferred. Knowledge of special education laws, IEP processes, and school-based therapy practices preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Physical Requirements Ability to lift, position, and assist students as needed. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday. Ability to use therapy equipment and classroom materials safely. Work Environment Elementary, middle, or high school settings. May work with students with a variety of physical, developmental, emotional, and learning needs. Follows the academic calendar and school schedule established by the district.
