Job Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the direct supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) to deliver therapeutic interventions outlined in students' IEPs or 504 plans. They help students overcome motor planning, sensory, functional or cognitive barriers to participate in the school environment.
Responsibilities:
Direct Therapy:
Execute individualized therapy plans to improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, coordination, and daily living skills.
Collaboration:
Work closely with special education teachers and parents to integrate therapy goals into classroom routines.
Documentation & Progress:
Monitor student outcomes, maintain accurate session logs, and report data to the supervising OT.
IEP Participation:
Attend team discussions and provide insights on student development.
Equipment & Adaptations:
Assist in adapting learning materials, classroom environments, and equipment to suit individual student needs. Provides direct services during Extended School Year (ESY) sessions as determined by individual student needs in accordance with IEPs. Commitment to professional growth through attendance at professional development events and self-generated activities that meet district expectations and re-certification requirements as appropriate. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all student, family, and staff records, personal information, and school district matters in accordance with FERPA regulations and district policies. Other related duties as assigned.

Previous experience working in pediatric or school-based settings is highly preferred. Dedicated commitment to maintaining current knowledge in occupational therapy content and strategies. Demonstrated experience working with students within a diverse environment.
Education:
Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
