Job Description

Purpose The primary purpose is to assist the Occupational Therapist in carrying out the programs of treatment to residents referred to Rehab Services for Occupational Therapy. This position reports directly to the Occupational Therapist on duty as well as the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
Qualifications:
1. Graduate of an AOTA approved school of Occupational Therapist Assistant with an Associate of Science degree as an Occupational Therapist Assistant. 2. Certification by the American Occupational Therapy Association. 3. Licensure by the State of South Carolina with the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Administers O.T. treatments, such as upper extremity strengthening and coordination exercises, sensory integration, and activities of daily living, as prescribed by a physician and outlined in the resident's plan of care by the Occupational Therapist. 2. Measures range of motion, strength, coordination, and functional status to assist the Occupational Therapist in compiling data for resident's functional outcomes. 3. Records appropriate and accurate treatment and billing data, and resident progress notes for O.T. residents. 4. Consults with other professionals regarding resident O.T. program to help coordinate and plan medical services. 5. Instructs residents and their families in resident O.T. home programs. 6. Follows orders from physicians' offices and LMCEC physicians as prescribed. 7. Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to residents, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Shows courtesy, compassion and respect. Conforms to facility Code of Ethics. 8. Participates in in-service education program and provides in-service classes for other LMCEC departments. 9. Attends professional conferences and meetings. 10. Assists with resident data for charging residents and performs other routine clerical work as needed. 11. Assists with the transportation of residents as needed. 12. Uses safe techniques for protection of residents and self in performing duties. 13. Assigns and instructs Rehab. Techs. while tech is assisting O.T. Assistant. 14. Performs related and such other duties as may be assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g. fire or disaster.
Position Characteristics:
1. Job requires a high degree of motor control and coordination in order to move body members rapidly, accurately and with precision. 2. The employee is permitted to perform assigned duties in conformance with AOTA & State of South Carolina standards. 3. Responsible for high degree of accuracy and control of details. Mistakes might cause considerable confusion, delays or extreme discomfort or injury to resident. 4. Repetitive or sustained physical effort, usually handling light or average weight material (5-15 pounds) or occasionally works with heavy weight material (40+ pounds). 5. Has contacts by phone, correspondence or personal meetings with persons in other departments or outside the facility; tact is required in the contacts and the employee assumes the responsibility for harmonious relationships.
Pay:
$35.00 per hour
