About the Role The Lead Ophthalmic Technician is a hands-on leadership role responsible for onboarding, developing, and supporting Ophthalmic Technician team members while remaining actively engaged in daily clinic operations. This position balances direct Ophthalmic Technician duties with training, mentoring, and real-time support to ensure consistent workflows, strong team performance, and high-quality patient experiences. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ophthalmic Technician who enjoys leading by example, coaching others, and supporting team success while continuing to work directly with patients. What You'll Do Perform all duties of an
Ophthalmic Technician:
patient workups, diagnostic testing, EMR documentation, assisting physicians during exams and procedures, etc. Remain actively working within the Clinic while providing real-time coaching and escalation support Deliver training for all staff and conduct regular performance check-ins, including new hire reviews Reinforce standard operating procedures, protocols, workflows, and patient care expectations Monitor patient flow, productivity, collections, and registration accuracy in real time; address workflow barriers while escalating trends or repeat issues to leadership Assist with service recovery by reviewing patient concerns and escalating issues when needed Coordinate with other teams and departments to resolve scheduling, registration, or workflow gaps Support timely and accurate collection of copays and prior balances, registration quality, and documentation completeness by reinforcing workflows and identifying delays or errors early Actively use, support, and model the adoption of new technologies, tools, policies, and process improvements What We're Looking For High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher preferred 1+ years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician Prior experience in a lead, trainer, or peer-mentoring capacity preferred (formal title not required) Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COT) preferred Willingness and ability to travel regularly to satellite clinic locations Skills That Help You Succeed Proven ability to teach, coach, and mentor team members with clarity and professionalism Mastery of Ophthalmic Technician skills, with the ability to model best practices for peers Professional, patient-centered communication and strong interpersonal skills Demonstrated capacity to balance quality, efficiency, and patient experience while reinforcing performance expectations Proficiency with healthcare technology, including EMR/EHR systems and communication tools Strong understanding of clinic operations, medical terminology, and clinical procedures High attention to detail with the ability to identify errors, trends, and gaps and respond proactively Commitment to patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and effective under pressure and changing priorities Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills Openness to continuous improvement, with the ability to learn, adapt to, and support evolution in a growing organization Ready to Lead With Purpose? Work is performed in a climate-controlled medical office environment with moderate noise levels, frequent interruptions and interactions, and a fast-paced clinical workflow. Regular travel to satellite clinic locations may be required.
Pay:
$17.00 - $22.00 per hour
