Job Description
River People Health Center (RPHC) is seeking skilled and compassionate Ophthalmic Technician (I or II) to join our Ophthalmology team. Discover new opportunities with

today! In this role, you aren't just assisting with exams; you are providing vital diagnostic support to our community members across every stage of life. You will offer essential care to ensure our patients—from our youngest children to our respected elders—receive timely, high-quality care with the dignity they deserve. Who are we? The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) is a sovereign tribe located in the metropolitan Phoenix area. Bounded by the cities of Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa and Fountain Hills, the Community serves over 9,000 tribal members, and all people conduct business over approximately 96 square miles of residential, agricultural and commercial lands, as a full-service government entity. What does the job look like? On a typical day at RPHC, you will be the primary clinical support for our Optometry team, ensuring a smooth and respectful flow for our patients.Patient Interaction:
You will greet patients, explain office procedures, and conduct initial interviews to record medical histories and chief complaints.Diagnostic Excellence:
You will operate fragile, state-of-the-art equipment to capture precise measurements, including intraocular pressure, auto-refractions, and advanced imaging like OCT and Fundus photography.Community Connection:
You will provide compassionate care tailored to the diverse cultures of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, often translating complex clinical treatment plans into clear instructions for patients.Clinical Environment:
Between patients, you will ensure exam rooms are thoroughly cleaned, diagnostic equipment is calibrated, and clinical supplies are fully stocked.What do you have:
Knowledge of the history, culture, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Knowledge of eye care terminology. Knowledge of equipment used in eye care management. Skill in operating and handling fragile equipment. Ability to provide compassionate care to community members. Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare personnel to provide quality care. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to meet and comply with HIPAA/Confidentiality policies and procedures and ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive patient information. Ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Salt River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services. Excellent accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.What you need:
Ophthalmic Technician I (Min $44,179- Mid $50,807
- Max $57,434): Graduation from high school or GED equivalent . 1 year of experience in an Ophthalmology or Optometry center preferred. COA or COT certification preferred. Ophthalmic Technician II (Min $51,005
- Mid $59,294
- Max $67,582): 1-year prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician required.
Special Requirements:
May be required to work outside normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Extensive background check regarding crimes against children. New hires in non-clinical roles with the CPR/BLS requirement must provide valid certification prior to the first day of employment or complete courses within 60 days of hire. Ensures all patient information is kept confidential and complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations andSRPMIC HHS
